Hornillos

We left   Burgos early at 6:30 and immediately met a pilgrim standimg on the corner .  He had just arrived in Burgos and did not know the route.  His name is Carlo, an Italian, who came here from a mission trip.  We walked together for several kilometers.

This was also Brian 's first day walking with us.  It is about 20 kilometers and pretty flat and he is doing great.

I am walking in the shoes which  Brian  brought.  The heels of the boots have no tread left and will probably be left behind after a test walk.

The walk reminded us of eastern Washington.

Sunflowers awaiting harvest.

There are sheep on the hill .

A tired pilgrim resting in a field .

There a power windmills on the horizon.

We also met a father with four kids who are from Tacoma  - a very nice family .

Blisters are also a constant.

The party continued at the local bar followed by a dinner salad Paul fixed.

Our new Tacoma pilgrim, Tom, noted what looked like wine cellars so we wandered up to look after dinner.  There was a family working there filling wine bottles from oak casks.

They were very friendly and proud of the family operation.  We left and then Brian went back to buy a bottle of their wine. The next thing we know Brian comes back with the family in their car to show us more of their operation.  There were two more wine cellars.  One filled with purchased grapes amd the other with casks.

One man then put on his boots and started the process of mashing the grapes.

Kate was impressed and wanted to partake in the fun and, after a foot washing she jumped in.

The family was incredibly friendly and gracious.  It was like stepping back into history.  Awesome !!
