Weather, Wind and Wonder

We left Orisson at just after 7 AM heading for Roncesvalles.  A good part of this walk is on the road and we were regularly reminded that the people here work for a living.  There are no sidewalks and we need to clear the roads for cars. -  frequently with one driver and dogs to manage the livestock.

This walk was a little different.  The roads had some puddles from the prior night's storm, but the real surprise was the wind which literally gusted at 50 mph.  While there was thankfully no rain, the wind was  a MAJOR obstacle and combined with a 1200 meter elevation gain made for a very challenging walk.  Several pilgrims at least considered " borrowing" the horses along the trail.
Potential targets - note that the horses wear bells along with the cows .  The sheep are painted to identify herds .

This being a very Catholic country there often statues in various places.  This one was along the walk.
We walked with two new Camino friends today - Liz and Kate.  Liz is from the UK and Kate is from the US and they currently live in the same community in Spain.  Kate lived within two miles of Guy and Kathy in Innis Arden,

Liz. Kate and  Paul.
Our first shadow picture
Lots of heather in bloom. Fall?
 look like crocus flowers? Fall?

We arrived at our destination and immediately took care of rehydration needs and used the laundry facilities.

They actually have nice laundry and cooking facilities,

Pilgrim's dinner and mass still to come tonight.
