Heidelberg day two and reunion continues.

The four of us went again to Heidelberg and to the area around the town today. Such a beautiful town it is, at least seven hundred years old. We found out that the Americans claimed Heidelberg as their headquarters upon entry into Germany at the end of the war. Luckily no distruction took place there. That can not be said for the huge castle above the town however not from WWII. It happened from an earlier war where cannon fire from an opponent severely damaged the castle. They are now in the process of restoring it to it's damaged but stable state. It 's a lot of work. The castle must have been a wonderful place when it was new and in prime shape. Inside a cellar is a wooden wine cask capable of holding 228000 liters of wine. It held 10 percent of the wine produced by each vintner in the kingdom as the kings tax. An sizable amount of wine was consumed in the castle. Maybe some of it was sold.
Guy and I stayed behind to take a nap as Werner, Talisa and Mestiana went to the airport in Frankfurt to pick up Rachel Schwarz who is returning from a week trip on the Camino Portugese. Rachel was with us on our camino last year and is from Arizona. Another late night.
